Pader, Kitgum support East Africa Community Intergration

The People of Pader and Kitgum District have unanimously supported the rejuvenation of the East African Community (EAC), endorsed and resolved that EAC must continue and must turn up to become East African Federation (EAF).

“We support with all our ten fingers the fast tracking of East African Federation because we know and understand the benefit of uniting as one. Unity is strength.” Pader LC5 Chairman Peter Odok Wod Oceng contributed.

Odok was on Thursday contributing to the National Consultative Committee from the Uganda Ministry of East African Affairs who were in the north to consult and collecting the views of the locals on the fast tracking of East African Federation.

“I want to pray fellow Ugandans not to look upon this Federation. Our President is all the time advocating for it, and we must all support him.” Odok added.

The Chairman of the committee Stephen Akabway Besweri highlighted the benefit and necessity of regional integration.

“The Regional integration is therefore a necessity in order to crate economically large, viable/strong, stable and economically sensible blocs to save the East African people from poverty, disease, and perennial violent conflicts,” Akabway explained.

He said if East African come together and pull their resources be it economic, political and human resources, they will be able to combat most of it problems like corruption, tribalism and nepotism,

“Even the northern Uganda conflict would have ended or been resolved long ago,” He added.

Pader RDC Lt. Santo Lapolo appealed top Ugandan not to undermine and sabotage the integration.

“I know some Ugandans mostly politicians are good in opposing and sabotaging government plan, but for the case of East Africa Integration. I would like to appeal to them to burry all their political differences and work towards successful formation of the East African federation which will greatly solve most of our problems both politically and economically,” RDC Lapolo advised.

The consultative meeting was attended by elected local leaders, Civil Servants, opinion and religious leaders, Security personals and other members of the community of Kitgum on Wednesday and Pader on Thursday.

Members of the National Consultative Committee on East Africa Affairs who were in the north included Commission Stephen Akabway Besweri (coordinator), Joseph Okwakau (National Youth Chairman), Jackary Olum (DP), Mackmot Henry (NRM) and Lyelmoi Ogaba the secretary General of Uganda Trade Union amongst others.

Man commits succide by Hanging over land in Pader District

Land wrangle is spreading like wild bush fire with a lot of inters clan, and family dispute amongst the Acholi in Northern Uganda.

On Thursday, Residence of Pader Town Council had a reason to answer bad morning after they woke u only to fine Sisto Ongom one of the residence in the area hanged himself on a tree over land wrangle with his younger brother.

Its alleged that Sisto Ongom picked a quarrel with his younger brother Charles Onen over how to share their ancestral land as displace people are returning back to settle to their home.

“He accused his younger brother of selling their ancestral land to strangers. Elders of the clan tried to settle the dispute but it seems he was not satisfied with the resolution and today he decided to hang himself,” said James Okidi Alfred the elder brother of the late.

Kerodina Adong the wife of Ongom told New Vision at the scene that during the day, Ongom over drunk alcohol and went to sleep earl by 7:00 pm in the evening only to wake up at around 3:00am put on a touch light and started writing a letter.

“I asked him why he was writing the letter at night but he didn’t reply me. He just went out and disappear in darkness only to be found dead in the morning,” Adong explained.

Police search the body of Ongom and found the letter he wrote and addressed it to his younger brother Charles Onen.

“My brother Onen, since you have decided to sell our ancestral land to strangers and refused to share the money with me your blood brother. I have decided to kill myself so that I don’t suffer and become a laughing stock in this world. Land was the only asset we had and life without it is meaningless. Enjoy the money you got from the land sales. But remember to take good care of my Children and wife,” the letter reads partly.

Pader Local Administration police commander ASP Benson Okoda took the later and asked close relative and witness to go and make statement with police.

Pader RDC Santo Lapolo accused Acholi opposition politicians for making land issues alarming now causing a lot of disputes and wrangles amongst the clans and family members in the region.

“Our MPs are to blame for all that is happening. They incited the locals and now people are fighting and killing themselves. They set fire, so they should come and defuse their fire. Otherwise many people will is going to fight and die over land issues in Acholi,” Lapolo said.

Gulu Man Sentence over Oral Sex

WHAT should have been a bedroom matter has ended up in court with dire consequences. Gulu Chief Magistrate Tom Champtai on Wednesday sentenced a man to one-week community service for subjecting his wife to oral sex. Richard Abola, 32, a resident of Toro Kal sub-parish in Amuru District was ordered to work at Amuru Health Centre from January 31 to February 8. The Prosecutor, Josephine Apio, told court that on the night of January 22, Abola had carnal knowledge of his wife Everline Arach against the order of nature. Abola pleaded guilty, but asked for a lighter sentence saying he acted under the influence of alcohol and pornographic movies.
